Sun 19th July 2026 - Pouches and Bags in Willow Bark II- Bias Plaiting

Willow bark is a beautiful and supple material to work with, surprisingly sturdy, but kind on the hands.

On this course you'll learn how to harvest and prepare willow bark and weave a bias plaited pouch with pre-prepared bark as shown in the photos. You will be able to choose to add a strap or handle.

You'll find out how and when to gather the willow bark, what to look for, how to prepare and dry it, and how to prepare it for weaving.

Using different barks and patterns, you'll be guided through the different processes involved and be able weave a bias plaited basket to your own design. Feel free to be creative and bring other materials to incorporate.

The course is held at my workshop at GRIT Studios in Stockport, a collective of makers and artists.

Fee includes all materials and tools are provided. It's suitable for beginners and those with previous experience.

The course is 9.30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Hot drinks are provided, please bring lunch.
