Sunday 13th July 2025 - Pouches and Bags in Willow Bark II- Bias Plaiting

Willow bark is a beautiful and supple material to work with, surprisingly sturdy, but kind on the hands.

On the course you will learn how to harvest and prepare willow bark and weave a bias plaited pouch as shown in the photos. You will be able to choose to add a strap or handle.

This technique is different to the basket in 'Pouches and Bags in Willow Bark I' .

You'll find out how and when to gather the willow bark, what to look for, how to prepare and dry it, and how to prepare it for weaving.

Using different barks and patterns, you'll learn the different processes involved and make a basket to your own design with the opportunity to be creative and incorporate other materials.

The course is held at my workshop at GRIT Studios in Stockport, a collective of makers and artists.

Fee includes all materials and tools are provided. It's suitable for beginners and those with previous experience.

The course is 9.30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Hot drinks are provided, please bring lunch.
