Saturday 19th July 2025 - Square Based Baskets in Willow Bark

Willow bark is often as attractive on its inner as its outer surface, and making an open form such as a box allows you to enjoy both.

Prepared bark is incredibly supple and a pleasure to work with.

On the course you will learn how to harvest and prepare willow bark to weave a basket with a square or oblong base. You'll find out how and when to gather the willow bark, learn how to prepare and store the material.

Different weaves will be demonstrated for the set up and sides, and variations on ways to make the border.

The course is held at my workshop at GRIT Studios in Stockport, a collective of makers and artists.

Fee includes all materials and tools are provided. It's suitable for beginners and those with previous experience.

The course is 9.30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Hot drinks are provided, please bring lunch.
